Our Vision
Following the example of Christ, LSMS will provide, for all people, quality human care services that build and strengthen individuals, families, and communities.
Lutheran Social Ministry of the Southwest was established as a multi-service organization in 1970. It continues to be an organization committed to impacting people’s lives through its work in health and human services. LSMS provides over 300,000 hours of service annually to the homeless, the hungry, the jobless, the disabled, the refugee, the lonely, the isolated, the depressed and the oppressed.
Since 1970, LSMS has responded to the needs of people, regardless of race, religion, gender or creed through the development and maintenance of a range of services designed to improve quality of life for all people.
- LSMS offers programs and services throughout the state of Arizona with primary focus areas in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal Counties.
- LSMS is recognized by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

- Life Counseling
- Professional counseling services offered on a sliding fee scale.
- FIRST Crisis Hotline & FIRST Friends
- Confidential crisis hotline and friendly calling program.
- JobNet for Neighbors
- Assistance for individuals seeking meaningful employment.
- Marriage & Family Ministry
- Providing individuals with valuable skills to enhance their relationships and families.
- Emergency Assistance & Food Pantry
- Distribution of food, clothing, bus passes, gas vouchers and rental assistance to those in need.
- Disaster Response
- Long-term case management and support for survivors of disasters throughout the Southwest.
- Recreation & Wellness
- Professional tennis and fitness programs for participants of all age.
- ASPIRE (After School Programs for Instructional and Recreational Education)
- First Evangelical Lutheran Church and LSMS created a joint ministry of tutoring classes for children in fourth through sixth grades.
- ROSS (Resident Opportunities for Self Sufficiency)
- Promotes and sustains independence and quality of life among elderly and disabled residents in three low-income housing complexes in Tucson.
Senior Services
Promoting an individual's level of independence while maintaining quality of life with dignity and respect
- In-Home Services
- Housekeeping, respite, personal care and attendance care services for homebound elderly and people with disabilities in Maricopa, Pinal, Pima, Gila, and Santa Cruz Counties. Allows individuals to maintain their current lifestyles in their own homes.
- Adult Day Health Care
- Nursing, nturitional and threapeutic activities for seniros who can no longer be left alone during the day and/or are in need of socialization. Also provides respite for caregivers throughout Arizona.
Multi-Cultural Services
Assisting refugees in establishing new lives with new opportunities
- Refugee Resettlement
- Services for refugees bieng resettled in the Phoenix and Tucson areas including: furnished apartment, case management, employment assistance, help accessing medical care, and guidance in adjusting to life in the United States.
- Asylum Program
- Legal aid for indigen protection seekers who risk persecution if forced to return to their homeland, and who cannot afford legla counsel in their quest for policital asylum before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
- Immigration Services
- Assistance in completing and submitting paperwork to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
