Sunshine Acres Children’s Home

The Mission of Sunshine Acres is to provide a loving, wholesome Christian home for children who are separated from their parents for one reason or another, and to help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures.

Sunshine Acres was founded in 1954 by Rev. Jim Dingman and his wife, Vera Dingman.  Even though they have both passed away, their ministry is still being carried on.

The basic goal is to provide for the emotional, social, physical, educational, and spiritual support for the children, so they may learn to manage their own affairs along with maximizing the development of their potential, abilities, and interests.  The ultimate goal is to facilitate a child’s development to voluntarily leave the Home and function within a community environment in a style that is both meaningful and purposeful to himself or herself, as well as the community.

The entry ages of children accepted are between 5 and 15.  Exceptions to this are considered on a case-by-case basis.  Children are accepted regardless of race, gender, or national origin. Once a child has been placed, he or she must live at Sunshine Acres for a minimum of one year and may stay as long as they like - even through college.

Sunshine Acres is primarily financed by private donations.  Some contributions are given through the United Way, family estates, and corporate and memorial gifts.  All gifts, whether they be large or small, are deeply appreciated.  There is no financial support from the federal, state, or city governments for the care of the children.  All donations are tax deductible.
